The Race: Race To The Stones

Who we ran with: Threshold Sports

How far did we go? 100km

Plodded upon: Trail and a tiny bit of road (much appreciated actually!)

What did we wear:

Where’d we go?

Things kicked off on a small farm just outside Watlington. We then followed the ancient trail known as the ridgeway through Wallingford, Streatley, and East Ilsley all the way to the halfway point near Wantage. We then jumped back onto the ridgeway towards Woolstone, Ashbury, Fox Hill, and Ognourne. Finishing up with a little out and back to the Avebury Stone Circle.

We LOVED…

The huge sense of achievement. What a truly epic adventure across the middle of England.

We Struggled…

Well, H didn’t seem to struggle at all. However, E had a real battle from 75-90km

Why this Race…

It is known as one of the most ‘glamorous’ ultras out there. There is an aid station roughly every 10km with food, water and loos. This makes it a fab event for first-timers, or for those who want to make things just a little more comfortable. At the end of the day, it’s still 100km and it is going to be extremely tough but they bonus glamour additions certainly help along the (very very very long) way. Saying that you can also do a 50kn version (also still a very long way, but slightly shorter!).

Famous Faces…

Jordan – First lady @projectmarathongirl

Mike – The man behind The National Running Show @mikeseaman2709

Ben – The one and only 401 super human @the401challenge

Mid run Brainwave…

Driving 60 miles is a long way, and now we’re running it. Thank goodness for honey and PB sandwiches.

Rocket Fuel…

Mainly Chia Charge flapjacks, salty new potatoes and margarita Clif bloks for E. H opted for bagels, Nairn’s oat biscuits and PB and honey sandwiches.

Number 1 Fan…

Rhys, Rob, Pauline and G who drove all over the countryside to ensure they saw us in as many places as possible. Their little faces really made our day!
