The Race: The Towpath Challenge

Who we ran with: The National Running Show

How far did we go? 157 miles (That’s 5.5 marathons in 5 days!)

Plodded upon: A couple of roads but mainly muddy towpaths and up and over a few locks!

What did we wear:

  • Kicks – Profeet (ON running and Adidas)
  • Pants – Runderwear
  • Kit- Lulu Lemon

Where’d we go?

We followed The Grand Union Canal from The Queen Elizabeth Park to The NEC in Birmingham.

  • Day 1 – The Queen Elizabeth Park to West Hyde (52km)
  • Day 2 – West Hyde to Leighton Buzzard (52km)
  • Day 3 – Leighton Buzzard to Blisworth (50km)
  • Day 4 – Blisworth to Stockton (45km)
  • Day 5 – Stockton to NEC (40km)

We LOVED…

The team who quickly became our family! Each and every one had an incredible inspiring story to tell. Their endless energy was infectious, keeping us stepping one foot in front of the other for the full 5 days.

We Struggled…

With the final 5km everyday! It was just that final push past your comfort zone, and it most definitely tested our legs and mental strength time after time.

Why this Race…

It is not technically a race as it was a one off event. However, we highly recommend getting a group together and replicating this amazing route.

Famous Faces…

Mid run Brainwave…

H- ‘Maybe if I run sideways to the camber I won’t slip over’

*2 seconds later H on her bum in the mud.*

Rocket Fuel…

Oats and a slice (or 5) of toast for breakfast.

While on the move we had Warburton thins with honey and peanut butter, Lucozade jelly beans, and Bounce balls.

Number 1 Fan…

E’s mummy who came out on foot in search of us on day 2!
